 Technology

Ketlon has 25 years experience in high precision machining and assembly processes used for manufacturing automotive power train components such as sprockets, gears and shafts and manufacture and assembly of transmission and suspension components

A wide range of production facilities exist employing the latest CNC manufacturing technologies in turning, gear hobbing, shaping, and shaving, profilating, internal, external, surface and gear grinding. We also offer all forms of heat treatment. In addition we have CNC machining centres, electrochemical machining, technology, broaching, milling and drilling.

These facilities are organised into customer focused business units operating lean manufacturing and group technology techniques in order to meet our customer's delivery and quality requirements.

To support our customers with their future product development programmes, Ketlon has made significant investments to maintain its competitive edge and since 1995 in excess of £20 million has been invested in state of the art technology.

 Techniques

Ketlon Limited has employed its own production methodology using many of the lessons learned from implementing world class production in the manufacturing facilities within the company.

This methodology enables manufacturing units within the company move towards being world class production facilities by following the principles of continuous improvement. It does this through:

- the empowerment and development of our people

- the elimination of waste (muda)

- regular benchmarking against world class enterprises

For example, Ketlon have established a tooling partnership with a major supplier which assists in providing optimum tooling solutions for our machining processes.

 Tooling

The production methodology used at Ketlon, is supported by a number of business tools that have been developed within the company.

Ketlon practices continuous improvement principles which encourage employees to improve quality and reduce cost through individual efforts or in groups called Ketlon Action Teams (KATs).

KATs empower employees to solve any challenges that might face them in the workplace. Any Ketlon employee can form a team with other employees - across all levels and parts of the Company who are chosen carefully either for their skills or for the knowledge which they can contribute to the work of the circle.

The programme was extended with the launch of Stakeholder Action Teams, designed to involve suppliers, customers and the communities in which the Company trades.

KATs use a technique called Creative Problem Solving (CPS) which outlines a step by step process designed to provide circle members with all the tools they need to solve the problem.

A radical new concept in learning in the workplace was developed at Ketlon. The Improvement Room is an IT and engineering based learning area located on the shop floor where employees can work on production-related problems, find their own solutions and applying them back to their production cell. This ensures that continuous improvement is an integral part of the normal production process. Reducing cycle times, errorproofing machine processes and improving layouts are just a few of the issues tackled within the Improvement Room on the Floor.

This enables us to learn in the morning and implement in the afternoon.
